Features of Dan Cong Tea

If you ask us, what's the features of Dan Cong Tea, we will tell the two of most important ones, which is abundant variety aroma and unique aroma abundant.

There are over 30 common varieties of Dan Cong Tea, if we want to count all the names, it's about 200. Some are similar some are significantly different, due to the weather change per year, the tea will have different aroma, strong or weak of back to sweet, more mountain smell or floral fragrant. Additionally, because of double baking degree is different, make it has very wide taste, the light one is similar to Taiwan oolong and Tie Guan Yin, the strong one is similar to rock tea Da Hong Pao. Its taste covers between them. From the fragrance, there are classical honey aroma, mountain type, stem type. Some of the breeds has unique fragrance, you can't imagine that a simple leave can make with aroma like orchid or jasmine. This diversity makes Dan Cong Tea mysterious, which tea lovers are willing to do it as life-long learning.

It's really a bit difficult to explain this feature. Dan Cong has so many different and complicated varieties, more previous is the unique aroma, abundant and high key. It has a reputation as 'Perfume of Tea'. The aroma of Dan Cong has large distinction, and it's famous of durable brew, for regular Kong Fu Tea brew, 8 grams can brew for over 10 times, which other tea can only do it like 5-6 times. That's pretty impressive and cool.

So Dan Cong Tea is a very unique branch of Chinese tea which is complicated and mysterious enough.



Why there are so many varieties?


People will ask such question, why Dan Cong has so many different names? What's the difference of them, does the making process count? The answer is, such like HuangZhiXiang, Cinnamon Aroma different tea names, actually they are single different variety, not about the making process, because each tea tree is different from leave shape and inner ingredient. This is similar to coffee bean.


Now we need to talk about the origin of Phoenix Oolong Tea, it's quite special, different with most of the other teas, they are not bring in by other tea category, but from local -- the phoenix mountain wild red tea. Long long time ago in ancient China, farmer found it's value then breed, from time being, it became more and more common on this mountain. There are no two trees are same, so why we call it single stem because of it's unique, farmers keep collecting by single stem so there are so many different varieties.


Category of Dan Cong Tea


Let's simply talk about three main categories of Dan Cong Tea.

First one is Light Aroma Dan Cong, most of them are high aroma level, by light baking with mild fry, this kind of tea is special in floral fragrant, tea soup is in light color, smooth and sweet when drink it, just like Taiwan Oolong.

Second one is Ripe Aroma Dan Cong, this kind of tea is double baking by heavy fry, its tea soup is orange red, sweet and heavy while drinking, with some fruit and floral aroma inside, kind of strong taste and it's good for some tea lovers.

The last one is Mild Aroma Dan Cong, it's between the above, by baking in medium fry, kind of balance for smell and soup. Quite popular in recently years.


Actually there are more categories, by planting in high mountain or low mountain, seasons, famous tea villages, the age of tea tree. It's a bit complicated so we will introduce in another time.
